My son just started 1st grade and this is now his favorite book. It is slightly challenging for him as he is at a "2nd grade" reading level, but he loves falling asleep reading it quietly to himself at night. I would say it's probably ideal for 3rd grade through 5th grade students.With a little help during his first read, he was able to get through all the words. The stories -- from a comprehension point of view -- is a bit too challenging as it tells the history of D-day from an adult point of view such as providing all the detail around the deception. Most adults wouldn't know most of the information in this book unless you are a history channel fan. I like that it stretches him, it starts teaching him history, and he loves the material.
Great independent Reading Comprehension activity. Good visuals and photos.
My grandson and I read this together before taking a trip to Normandy to see where his great grandfather fought. The reading level and content was great for a third grader.
My grandson loves the book and uses it to play out WWII battles with Lego battleship I also gave him for Christmas.
For classroom.
Interested in all things about WW II. Young people today need to be better informed about the sacrifices our men made to fight and win this horrible war
