This book is boring as sin (i.e. a colloquial phrase that means its the most boring thing I've ever read). Even its new edition is like forcing yourself to watch paint dry in an agonizing form that is never ending. I pity those that are forced to read this. To someone who isn't completely new to IT, it is incredibly boring with most chapters in the book. I think the book was actually extended purposefully to fill pages because of how the writing isn't condensed at all. It also has unnecessary graphics, tables, etc covering numerous pages. The processes it lists ranging from planning to implementing a plan and defending against attacks seem to be scaled for a large corporation and not really a small business. Most of the stuff I knew already but, as far as knowing all of these different acronyms for aspects of a business, I highly doubt anyone uses the entirety of the terms in this book in a business setting.

Whoa. This book was incredibly sleep-inducing. Every time I would begin reading, all I wanted to do was lay my head down on the desk. At an extremely high velocity. Again and again.All in all, I think the book has a lot of useful information. Some chapters were actually pretty interesting. Unfortunately, the usefulness of the information is a bit lost amongst the efforts your brain makes while reading to simply continue functioning. To say the reading is dry would be an understatement; it's more like a Texas drought where the ground cracks open and cows fall in. I know this doesn't have to be, as my Authorized Cert Guide for CompTIA Security+ by David Prowse is actually quite interesting and he has a sense of humor, so you know it's a real person writing it. The layout makes a difference as well. I know that paper is not quite so scarce that we can't spread the words out a bit and put in some bullets or paragraph breaks, rather than pages and pages of solid text. Bleh. Ain't nobody got time for that.So, if you must get this book as a requirement, take heart - the semester will end. Until then, take frequent breaks, drink plenty of water, and just do your best to stay awake.

Although some information was interesting in here, it delivered it in a poorly-written way. There was some new stuff I didn't cover in previous classes, but I feel that I had to comb over The Great Wall of Text to get to the point. Moreover, this book is MOSTLY the Management side of InfoSec, not so much the Hacking side. It only briefly covers on the highly-technical details, whereas it loads you mostly with Best Practices and the like.Tells you what tools Cybersecurity uses, but doesn't really give any examples of HOW to use them. Does, however, give some decent Security Architecture tips, but it doesn't really cover anything about configuration and such.If it had fewer metric tonnes of fluff, perhaps it could have gotten a 3 or even 4, but it took what I thought was going to be the most interesting of my courses and made it the most obnoxious.

My teacher assigned this book for our class and it is one of the hardest and driest books to read. I feel like every chapter is the same and I am reading a slightly different versions of chapter one. To top it off I have to take a quiz on the information. Even the powerpoints that accompany the book are 55 slides or more.I think this book suffers mainly from lazy writing and lazy editing. If this book had been properly edited it would have been a third of the size that it is and the student would walk away with the meat of the subject instead of a little meat and a whole lot of fat.

Buyer beware. I rented the Kindle version for my class. The punchline is that it doesn't work on my Kindle, not supported? Only works on some androids as an app (not all) and will not work on Kindle Cloud. Also doesn't work on Win 8 app version of Kindle, but will as the PC (Win 7) version of the Kindle application. Confused yet? Pathetic in my opinion. A kindle version only partially supported by Amazon. I asked their help desk on 2 different times and they only replied that the author would authorize? Why would that even be close to a real reason - Kindle versions should not be constrained even on Amazon's own native devices.As for the book - it's dry. It is about internet security so making it an exciting read would be a stretch. I didn't rent it to entertain myself, it was a required read for a class. I gave it 3 stars only because the author allowed it to be rented by students which is a huge help considering tuition costs.

The book was a requirement for a Information Security class. It needs updating and better layout but the price is nice for a textbook. Overall I found the class too easy and this book is for someone new to information security. I was expecting a more in-depth class as it being a 300 level class but was disappointed. The book is all black and white and doesn't even offer margins to write in notes. Again the price is nice but my copy arrived where the pages looked faded. I don't think this was unique to my copy but how the book is mass produced.

If you have the opportunity to read this book while not enrolled in college, you'll appreciated it even more! The first four chapters might not be your cup of tea if you just care about firewalls, IDS, IDPS, VPNs, and encryption, but if you are a scholar and interested in security principles as a whole, get this book. Get the Kindle version if you can. I have the paper back and I wish I had the digital version, too!

This is the best book I've found to study the foundations of Information Security. It is a must read for anyone preparing for the CISSP exam. The information is presented logically and explained thoroughly. I also recommend "Security+ Guide to Network Security Fundamentals" by the same publisher.

Well written and easy to follow. It provides a lot of detailed information about the Pi and how to work with it. It gives specific instructions on how to create a bootable SD card to run the Pi. The book explains how to work with the operating environment and examples of how to program the Pi for you own purposes. There are sections on creating interactive games and how to use the Pi to control LEDs and other items. Well worth the money.

If you're like me, you buy Dummies books not because you literally know nothing, but because of the consistency that the brand enforces. Unfortunately, I feel this book is written for people who have never seen linux before and for some reason still want to buy a raspberry pi to use as a regular computer.To be fair, had I read the cover, I would have known that. But I took it on brand faith that the Dummies book for the Raspberry Pi would be well-rounded. Thus, I am disappointed. Here were some of my "what the heck?" moments:1) A whole chapter on html and websites?2) Two chapters on Python and Pygame?3) Chapters on GIMP and LibreOffice?Ok, so Raspberry Pi is a linux machine. Got it. But none of these are really specific to the Raspberry Pi. You can do all this stuff on a Windows machine. It seemed like filler material to me.The chapters at the end on physical computing were better, but instead of starting you with breadboards and LEDs, they have you doing woodworking to build a physical game.I think there are better books out there for almost every skill level.

I bought this book because I was interested in Raspberry Pi. I am also a dummy. Makes sense.But, see, I'm not as dumb as this book thinks I am.There are exactly 6 of the 18 chapters in this book that pertain to the Raspberry Pi. And these are really, really well done. After reading them I felt comfortable with the hardware and how I should be using it. The remaining 12 chapters (the bulk of the book) run the gamut from a Python programming intro to how to use a Linux word processor.This would be great if it were titled "Computing for Dummies". But it isn't.

I reverse engineer circuits from JTAG ports to check on proprietary algorithms, so am tearing apart electronics all day long. Not having to buy the 12 other books either out or coming out that show you (with varying quality) piece-by-piece what either the hardware, software, assembly, Linux, OS, or other levels do one by one.I'd recommend this to anyone planning to use this as an inexpensive PC, or planning on more advanced hobby work, because after you get all the pins, access, media vs. primary OS, etc. done you can then move on to more advanced, specialized applications from home automation to games, robotics, and much more.Most of the younger, most advanced programmers on the planet (I work with a LOT of them) don't have a clue about some of the older assembly-level memory tricks, etc. and when you're using an SD card instead of a big drive, the discipline is a great eye opener even for old hacks like me. This beast is nearly 500 pages, compared to a lot of "specialty" Pi books at twice the price and 1/3 the page count, and every page is packed with great stuff for beginning and intermediate users. For reference and review, at this price, I'd also recommend it to seasoned old folks too if you really want to maximize your RP skill quickly, and save money re: above.

While there are technically 40 pages, (each for a corresponding principle) a 5 minute read is hardly what I was expecting. Thought there might be some intellectual tools to be had. But alas, with complex ideas such as, use a dictionary, or write down ideas, this just may have lowered my intellect. The genius here, I admit, is the marketing gloss that snared my money.

It's a stupid rip-off. The title is a lie. There is no toolkit given, just some general advice--brilliant things like "record your thoughts." It is a pamphlet, not a book, and I am angry at Amazon for allowing it to be sold as a book. It was a TOTAL waste of 3 dollars of my money and of 15 minutes of my time.

It was a lousy read. Nice points but nothing new really. Would have been better as a blog post instead of a book

The book has 40 short sections, but between them are several repetitious entries and overlaps... how many ways can you say the same thing? A lot it seems.Think of this book not as a finely crafted German toolkit, ready to hand down like an heirloom through the generations, but instead more like that budget multi tool you got because it seems too good to be true, so many attachments, so low cost.... but just like that tool, this book quickly blunts itself, and almost none of the included extras actually fit your needs.

I already knew about 90% of the material ideas in the toolkit and I think most people with a reasonable amount of common sense would. That's the key, common sense, the ability to use the critical thinking skills they don't teach kids in school anymore. It was however a good read, and fast. IT resonates and reaffirms many ideas that are floating in the back of so many peoples minds. It's a great reminder of what we need to remember we know. Make sense.

Every first year teacher has greater knowledge about learning then what you will find in this book. Do not waste your time. There are much better, thoroughly researched books on the brain and how we learn. Use your time to investigate them.

The book highlights some commonly known / understood facts about life and success. As the title implies, I would have been happy to read more "genius" pointers, especially from genius minds.

Here's the good news: this book is only talking about big law and, as the book points out, only 15% of lawyers in the country practice in big law. So while it's true, as the book points out, that many if not most law schools lie about your prospects for getting a job, 85% of the legal world is NOT composed of lawyers in big law. This means that if you want to practice law and you want to help people there are plenty of places for you in the profession and there are any number of books and mentors who can teach you how to run a business of the practice of law.That being said, it's really dumb today to get yourself in debt by going to "famous" law schools in hopes of being in that 15%. This book should be mandatory readying for those applying to law school - not to scare you off from a great profession, but to make sure your eyes are wide open about about the lie of riches in big law firms.for most of you aspiring lawyers you will be much better off finding a reasonably priced law school, taking some business classes along the way, and figuring out how to help people, make money and have a good quality of life. There are thousands of lawyers across the United States who are leading THAT life today.

Anybody in or around the legal profession knows that there are too many law school graduates, with too few skills, vying for too few legal jobs. Some of those graduates aren't so new anymore either, having graduated years ago. At the same time, the pyramid scheme that was Big Law is collapsing as the professional services economy changes for lawyers, as it is for everybody else (physicians, consultants, etc.) The book, however, offers mostly opinion, anecdote and amateur data to support its points and thesis. It's an interesting read, but the writing is mediocre. Most important, the author fails to consider his thesis in the context of the overall professional services economy: It's changing for everybody. A better read would be one that addresses what the future of the legal profession looks like and why (for example, law firms as companies that produce legal services (like modern physician practices), more lawyers using legal skill sets in non legal jobs, etc.)

It has a lot of solid points but this book is primarily focused on "big firm" problems, which is fine as far as it goes. It doesn't go very far in several other directions, where most American lawyers practice. It really doesn't touch much on solo and small firm life. From Legal Zoom reducing the need for lawyers, to increased tort reform limiting incomes, it completely misses the total failure of the ABA and most State Bars to protect the interests of MOST of their members on these fronts---as well as the inherent conflict this lack of State Bar representation creates between mega firms and solos. It also doesn't address the law school tuition problem: Every year there is still an army of people who take the LSAT and going on to Law School at places where they will have little to no chance of getting a high paying job upon graduation. But it's an excellent start. Bravo.

I think I agree with other reviewers - I wish the author had been more concise. He repeated himself more often than necessary. Also, other than law school, the author only talks about big law, which as he often points out is only 15% of lawyers. It would have been good to hear more about other parts of the profession.

Fantastic book that should be required reading for any law firm managing partner, board or management committee member at a firm of more than 25 lawyers. It's bad news for most, but an amazing opportunity for those willing to make the tough cultural changes and put clients first--and not just claim that on their web sites...

Good to know what you're getting into.

Prof. Harper’s book clearly states that the legal profession is big trouble because the law schools are simply pumping out more lawyers than needed. The data he complied and presented is clear and compelling evidence that the law school industry is failing its customers, the students. Moreover, he makes and wins the argument that the traditional three year academic focused law school curriculum is completely out of touch with the realities and needs of the actual workplace. The book should not dissuade anyone from seeking a legal education if they really want to be an attorney, but rather, a student needs to obtain some practical skills before graduating if he or she wants a decent paying job upon employment.

I'm always skeptical when I see anything that pairs "social media" and "made me rich." Seen it too many times! But I have to admit that I got a bunch of new, practical ideas for kicking up my social media marketing game from this book. Trying one of the strategies now and it's getting some small, but early, traction. Even if you get just a couple of ideas from it, worth the read.

I have to say that I am writing this review having not finished the book. It is a slow read because of all of the content. When I finish a concept I have to sit down and put it into action. I've already used the free report tips to expand my email list four times! The references alone are worth the price of the book. It's pure gold. Thank you Matthew. I knew you were writing this and it's so much more than I expected.

The first chapter of this book changes your mindset about whether or not to start a business. After reading the first chapter you have definitely decided You WILL DO IT. This is a great how to book. I am going to do every thing that has been stated in this book. Today I give this book 5 stars. In six months I will do another review and I will update you on my success. This guy is the Tony Robbins of social media.

Not only is Matt Loop a brilliant chiropractor, charismatic speaker, and best selling author, but he is kind and generous to all he meets. I love this book. It gave me the confidence to understand a fast paced industry I was oblivious to as an entrepreneur. He offers a plethora of powerful tools to move your life and social media skills to a whole new level. I’m a tough critic! This book now sits among my top 5, including Napoleon Hill and Anthony Robbins. Well done Dr. Loop!

I cannot describe how this book makes you feel within the first Chapters of reading. I will be honest -- I had an incredible Practice and with Obamacare changing everything and getting divorced; I lost my marketing person (my wife). Alot of changes within the last 12 months distracted me from all aspects of my Practice. I found Matthew Loop on a random Youtube search and, right off the bat, I learned 5 good ideas to enhance my Practice and get me motivated. I purchased the book and, honestly, cannot put it down. WAIT--- IT IS NOT A COVER TO COVER READ. I have to read it in doses because EVERY Chapter is filled with incredible ideas that I write down and implement into making my Practice a success again.Anyone looking for success.... I would highly recommend buying this book. Plus, Dr. Loop does return emails when I have a few questions for clarification on tactics. This book has made me motivated again. There are over 40 veterinary offices in our city that we must compete with and the direct / easily implemented advice given here have made a world of difference to our new client numbers. I wasn’t careful when I was ordering this book and thought I was getting the adult version of this book. I was surprised when I opened up my package and it was the children’s version. I checked my order and sure enough it was me that made the mistake! Regardless, I gave the book a try, since I am a cat lover and didn’t mind having a quick and easy read.This was a really sweet story. I loved reading about how Dewey made his life at the library. In addition to being a cat lover, I also work in a library. It made me wish for a library cat of my own! I enjoyed all the little anecdotes and loved the photos. I admit I teared up in a few spots. I certainly enjoyed the book, and will probably pass it on to my nieces. Just make sure you’re ordering the right version!

Vicki once again writes a great and compelling book, I will not spoil this for anyone but you must read all the way to the end, which can be hard for cat lovers. Dewey's life as told by her was mesmerizing as well as her insights into a small town and it's library and how a library works and her dreams and how she made them real for it.In this second book we get additional accounts of different cats and people along with a few more things about Dewey, especially after his death, it's not always feel-good and has some sorrow, so be prepared for that but it's worth all that to get to the end.

A very popular, cute, heartwarming story of love & compassion about a kitten who was found abandoned in the library Return Box overnight, but was rescued, nursed back to health & took up residence in the local library as its new home. This particular version is written on a child’s level & easy to read. My 9 yr old granddaughter LOVES this book & we have always checked it out of our library whenever she comes to visit if it is available at the time but when I saw this great deal on Amazon, I couldn’t help but grab it. I bought a “used” copy of the book for the best price but it is in very excellent condition. This particular version has become a “hard to find” book at a reasonable price but Amazon had the source. Now my granddaughter has her own copy to read when she is visiting & someday it will be hers to keep ...& be one of her memories of good times at Grandad & Nana’s house.

If you've ever owned a cat, you will just eat up every word, every adventure, every cuddle in this book. If you "dont know cats" this will take you into their world; it will show you the depth of their intelligence and capacity to love and care. The tale of the small almost-frozen cat being rescued by the library staff and becoming a fixture in the museum is well told. You can just see the cat chasing things, or being chased, and how it interacts with people -- particularly with grumps and physically disabled. The few sections about the health of the author (librarian) did not interest me, and I could have done without. I could re-read this book every few years and still giggle, swoon, or cry. It must be one of the top "gift books" published, as you will want to share it, and bring joy to others' lives.

The namesake of the story, Dewey, will win your heart just as he did for people in the town of Spencer, Iowa and across the world. I very much enjoyed the stories of how he won over the hearts of many who were hardened to life and affection. The author goes into great detail to describe Dewey's hometown and its history, which is valuable at times because it shows the effect this little cat had in helping to preserve it.The only complaint I have is with the awkward transitions between Dewey's story and the author's life. There are several chapters that have nothing to do with Dewey's story and are completely about the author's past; and there is no smooth transitioning between the two. It's almost like, "Enough about the cat, let's talk about me now." Not to say that it wasn't an interesting read, it was just...awkward. I understand tying two separate timeframes together to weave one story together, but this book did not succeed in that. She could have correlated a struggle of Dewey's to a struggle of hers, but there was none of that. The story of Dewey would rock along happily, only to be interrupted by two chapters of what its like to be a single mom. It's kind of like this review; everything's adorable, now let me rant about molding two stories into one.Now, in earnest, I got what I expected from the story, which was a touching tale about an adorable cat. I was excited to see how the little guy became famous and how his story culminated in this book. If you are a cat lover, Dewey is worth the read.

Having heard about Dewey, the library cat, I was curious. This book, not the original, is both a sequel in that it follows other cats similar to Dewey insofar as they changed their humans' lives; however, it also is something of an autobiography of Vicki Myron, in that she weaves other details of Dewey's and her own life into the stories she tells of these other cats.Cat lovers will enjoy these stories and see their own special animals in the events that are covered. What I enjoyed most was the creative names Vicki gives her special "library" cats, and the uplifting manner in which the book moves from the difficulties all experienced, often as kittens, before being adopted by--or adopting--the humans who came to be so much a part of their lives.

This is the second time I have read Dewey,s story.I love this book. I love the way it has been written. I love Dewey even though I only met him in the book.I had a cat that l loved with all my heart ,actually a few and dogs.All special all different for us it was an orange and white cat his name was SHILO ,named after the Neil Diamond song. He filled our lives with LOVE he honoured the song. My children thought the song was for our cat, not the other way around, the years do not dim the LOVE. Thank you Vicki for sharing Dewey with us.
