Review
"The authors have attempted and succeeded in making the information as meaningful and current as possible. Because every aspect of collection management seems to have been adequately covered in this work, it is recommended as an up-to-date textbook for library and information science courses in both graduate and undergraduate programs as well as for training purposes within libraries." - ARBA

I'm honestly not sure what star rating to give this, because my complaint is not with the book but with the kindle version. This text is required for a class in my MLIS program. I very much wished I had read the reviews before purchasing the kindle edition. In terms of quality of information, the book itself is fine. But as other reviewers have mentioned, entire sections are placed out of order; I think formatting in the original text was somehow not compatible with how kindle formats e-books, and I think this is something Amazon should work on improving. As a result of the formatting, I am often forced to switch back and forth between pages to search for where I think the paragraph I was reading will pick back up. I'm half way through the first chapter, and it has been an extremely aggravating experience so far. I bought the e-book version because as a grad student, I am on a tight budget, and it was less expensive than even the used copies on offer. I also thought it would be more convenient, being one less text book to lug around. To add to my aggravation, Amazon does not refund Kindle purchases after 7 days, so now I'm debating whether to pay for this book a second time or suck it up for the semester.
The content is good, but the ebook is a mess. I should have read the reviews first because the formatting for the ebook is all off. Anytime there is a section that would be perhaps on a side column or a box it is thrown into the middle of the text. You'll be reading and all of a sudden in a middle of a sentence it will say "Author's view" and it can go on for a few pages, but they time you get to the end of it you've forgotten what you were reading before and have to back track.
Reads nicely
Matched description.
I'm still in the first chapter, and already two paragraphs have abruptly ended mid-sentence. I have no idea how much I've missed, and can only hope it isn't vital info for my class.
The textbook is required by my MLS program and is standard of the Library and Information Science Text series. It does seem to be a good starter for learning the very basics of collection management. As usual, more theoretical than anything. As far as the Kindle version, I would strongly advise against it. I don't have a problem with page numbers; the problem is that no one ensured the content stayed in the correct order within chapters. Paragraphs are split up without warning and you have to search and attempt to use context to figure out where it picks up again. Tables of information are split up, making comprehension difficult because you are too busy focusing on switching pages to try to keep the information in proper order when reading. Some text is simply lost or missing. I understand having to format the book into an e-version to make the text searchable and so forth, but some effort to keep the content comprehendible would be nice.
Exactly what I needed for class. Very useful information in the field of library science.
course book, so far, so good!
